7:15am, Friday 17 November: St Gregory the Wonderworker

Adoration and Confessions following Mass

Saint Gregory the Wonderworker, also known as Gregory Thaumaturgus or Gregory of Neocaesarea, was a Christian bishop of the 3rd century. He was born in Neocaesarea, northern Asia Minor, into a prominent pagan family. After his elementary education, he and his brother went to Beirut to study law. His miracles, including the moving of a mountain, converted pagans to Christianity.

He was a champion of orthodoxy in the 3rd-century Trinitarian controversy. Saint Gregory of Nyssa wrote that he was the first person known to receive a vision of the Theotokus, which gave him a statement of doctrine on the Trinity. He is commemorated by the Church on November 17.
